How to set up an iTunes account with US billing address

Apple has among the strictest rules that are geared to preventing fraud but mostly to protect their US market. Although any nationality can have an iTunes accounts, the US iTunes version is where really everyone wants to download from since it has much more to offer, especially movies and the iBooks for the iPad. If you have tried to set up a US iTunes account you probably gave up pretty fast. It accepts US billing addresses only and only US billing addresses. Here is the solution: the US Unlocked Card. This is a virtual pre-paid Discover**debit card with US billing address. The card costs $15 to create. As soon as you have loaded the card with the desired amount you can start making online payments with it. For iTunes, however, we have found out that the balance on the card has to be at least $51 for the card to be accepted during the account set up. The use of an IP shield is crucial!
Step by step instruction:
1) Sign up with US Unlocked, if you haven't already
2) Apply for the US Unlocked Card by paying $15
3) Make your first card load payment of $51
4) Once the funds have cleared your card is assigned and you can register the card to the iTunes account:
- Use Hotspot Shield to enter the iTunes site (shield should be green, top right of the screen)
- You will need to start fresh and create a new iTunes account with your US billing address
A word of advice: Be VERY careful
of your available balance. If your balance goes below the purchase amount (i.e.
you have $10 in your account and you want a $9.99 album but forgot to account
for the $.50 fee) the purchase will be declined. Normally this isn’t an
issue, but Apple iTunes will continue to charge your account repeatedly
(sometimes 6-8+ times) costing you $.75 decline fees every time.
Trouble shooting:
When iTunes says 'please, enter valid security code', it means that they are not accepting the card. Check the following:
- Card has a balance of min. $51?
- You have used a vpn connection/ip shield? For Hotspot Shield: red shield means 'disconnected', click connect.
- You have filled in all the data exactly the way they appear on the US Unlocked Card page?
- Does the email address you are using to set up the account have anything other then '.com' to it that might reveal your non-US location?
- Have you logged out of your existing (local) iTunes account if any? (Also helps to clear browser cache and start over)
If the answer to all these question is Yes and you still cannot register the card:
- Have you tried to make any other payments with the card in the last 48 hours? If so, that store might have put a temporary hold on the funds, causing the available funds to be insufficient/less than the minimum of $51.
If so: please, contact support@nxpay.com and they can help you out.
* card load payments can be made after ID verification status is accepted. To get the accepted ID verification status upload a recent bill or statement showing a matching address and a scan of a government issued ID.

Hi Linda, followup on my previous post:
Created the iTunes account and purchased my first iTunes LP (American Beauty / Grateful Dead :-))
So, no more "the item you've requested is not currently available in the Belgian Store"s for me !
As I was expecting, the use of the Hotshield is only necessary to create the iTunes account, to buy and download the purchased items you do not need to be shielded.

Once you have downloaded Hotspot Shield the shield will be up every time you are connected to the internet, unless you de-activate it. You will need the shield for iTunes US but also to place successful orders/dowloads at many other websites where your IP location is blocked for making a purchase.

You will see your balance on the NXpay account, if you have activated it. The balance appears after funds clear, this usually takes 5-7 business days and you will receive a notification email when they do. For more info, please contact info@usunlocked.com

hotspot vpn is working. card is activated, verified, and loaded with $51, (and I can see it loaded in nxpay). it is linked to iTunes account, (billing address matches, etc.). iTunes account only working for free purchases, however.
Any time I attempt to pay anything, credit card is declined. Any idea why?
(Is the $51 somehow 'frozen'?)

Hi Adity, You can use the card without activating your NXpay account. To be able to manage your card and view your balance however, you will need to log into the NXpay account and for this it needs to be activated first.

How do I load my US Unlocked Card?
First, make sure your ID verification status is Accepted, this when the loading option becomes available. On the US Unlocked Card page submit the amount you wish to load on your card.
Submit your payment of the desired load and you will have the money on your card within 5-7 business days.
Make sure always to load an extra $6 to cover maintenance and transaction costs.
What documents do I need to upload in order to receive the 'ACCEPTED'ID verification status?
Both of the following documents (preferably in English)are needed:
1) a scan of a recent (utility/phone)bill or (credit card/bank) statement that was addressed to you to the address we have on file for you.
2) a scan of a valid ID (passport or driver's license)

Hi Alex, You card does not have a balance on it yet. Since this is a pre-paid debit card the card is practically useless without a balance. Make sure you check the trouble shooting list. If you have any other questions, send us an email at info@usunlocked.com

Hi, Sorry to hear you have this issue. I assume you already went over the troubleshooting list? It is possible that you tried to set up the account immediately after you received the notification that the funds were on your card and that, due to a time delay on the processor, the funds might still have been marked as 'unavailable'. I recommend trying again. If you have any issue, you can always contact Scott at support@nxpay.com.

Thank you very much!!! It just work well! plus the need for Hotspot Shield is only during registration/creation of the iTunes account. You in fact do not need to create a new iTunes account. What you need to do is:
1. Make sure you are connected to the internet under HotSpot Shield VPN or any US-IP address VPN service.
2. Open-up iTunes. Go to iTunes Store to view your account.
3. This is important. Change the country. iTunes might confuse and ask you to redirect the store to your local iTunes Store. But try several time until you are able to change your country to US.
4. Then iTunes will ask you to continue and then update your Credit Card information and the billing address using the USunlocked Discover card.
5. Once it is successfully verified by iTunes, you can disconnect the VPN.
6. You can test to buy any song from iTunes Store.

Hi Saad,
Apple has a few measurements in place to avoid any one from outside the US to sign up for iTunes. Only when the steps are followed up to the letter will you be able to work around these measurements. Common 'mistakes' are:
- wanting to change the country to USA in existing iTunes account
- not having enough funds on the card (has to be minimum $51, load $56)
- not using hotspot shield (hotspot shield currently does not work in UAE until fixed)
Netflix does not accept debit card payments. To work around Netflix:
- apply for the US Unlocked Card
- download Hotspot Shield
- go on Netflix while Hotspot Shield is connected
- set up your account using your own non-US credit card details but using the US billing address from the US Unlocked Card.
This has worked for many customers.
Please, be advised that we do not provide mail forwarding services and thus cannot send you actual movies. You can, however use Netflix to view movies on your computer.

Hi Christine, If you are doing everything right ( enough balance, hotspot shield etc), Apple has found another reason to no longer accept the card. The best thing to do in this case it start over and open a new iTunes account with a different email address. Remember that you need the $51 buffer and that Apple will put a hold on that amount for 3 days before you are back to the original available balance.

If iTunes keeps asking for your security code (which it tends to do after software updates) try below method that Apple customer service recommends:
To resolve this issue, please reset your iTunes account's password.
You can simply reset it via Apple's iForgot website at:

After reseting the password please see if it works, if you still get the same error please sync your device to your computer and follow the steps below:
Please delete the credit card information from your account:
1) Open iTunes and sign in to the iTunes Store.
2) Select "View My Account" from the Store menu.
3) Enter your password and click the View Account button.
4) Click the Edit Payment Information button.
5) Select "None" as the payment type.
6) Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.
After you select the "None" option, please attempt to download a free App from iTunes Store. Then sign out from your account and sign in back and re-add your credit card information.
Please follow these steps to confirm or update your account's information:
1) Go to the My Apple ID site at:
http://appleid.apple.com/
2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
5) Click "Addresses" in the left column.
6) Confirm or edit your information.
7) Click "Phone Numbers" on the left. Make sure the area codes and phone numbers are entered correctly in their respective fields.
8) Click Save Changes.
Once your information is updated, try placing an order on the iTunes Store again.
If the above does not work or your card is declined again, the best thing to do then is to contact iTunesStoreSupport@apple.com.

I just wanted to say that this is an awesome service - thanks! My account was set up in no time. At first I was using my own VPN service with a US IP but kept getting the message that the credit card verification was not working. I switched to the Hotshield and was able to sign up and complete my order in no time. The funds I transferred from Paypal were already showing on my card the next business day. I did wait another day before setting up my iTunes account just in case, but everything is working as it should.

Today, I hv successfully opened an US iTunes account.
1) Connect using Hotspot Shield (all the way), make sure the Hotspot Shield is in "green" color and connected all the way
2) Go to Apple store, account, create new account
3) It directs me to the US iTunes Store web-page (Hotspot Shield works!)
4) Fill in the Discover card info, and the address and shipping reference given by "ship it" fm usunlocked
5) Done, account created. No problem and easy
6) Then I use my Mac, connect to Mac Store
7) Buy a free apps for Mac
8) Since it is the 1st time to use the new iTunes account, iTunes asks me to fill in the info again for verification
9) I find my address and credit card info are correct, but I cannot find the payment method of "Discover" card
10) I note iTunes find my city is showing my own country insteads of US, that can be some resident cookies in my Mac showing the country info. Then I click to choose to US
11) After choosing to US, then the "Discover" card option appears, choose it. And after a few more easy steps, iTunes sends me an email that my account is created
12) I choose the free Mac apps again. I login by using the new Apple ID and password. The free Mac apps now running in my Mac!!!
13) I suppose my US iTunes account should work now....

2- IDs Accepted and Got it loaded with USD 525
3- Activated the NEX Account
4- Turned On the Hotspot Thingy (Made sure its US)

It still works! I guess there's a few things that wil determine your success of having a legit US iTunes account and subscribing for iTunes match;
1) Must have a valid US address, get one from USunlocked.com, input exactly as they'd given you in the itunes account sign up page. Don't sign up unless you've got your USUNLOCKED card ready! *Important!* Before signing up, ensure you're in US iTunes store, not your home country; by default iTunes will select your home country the moment itunes is installed. Select country by scrolling all the way to the bottom and click on the flag logo down at the footer of the page. Basically you cannot change country to US once you've sign up via your home country's iTunes.
2) You don't actually need VPN, but it wouldn't hurt to have one either.
3) Purchases in the US iTunes store can be done 2 ways, i) using iTunes gift card or ii) having a US debit card.
I would personally vouch using a card for purchases rather than gift cards, because i) it cost more to get legit gift cards (trust me) ii) u can sign up for iTunes match.
How do you get a US debit card? Read the above as posted by the usunlocked guys!!!!!

Hello, My Card has been issued and looking forward to using it. The current balance is showing 0.00$ but the pending load payment is 200$ Does that mean that the card is not yet usable until the 200$ appear in the current balance ?

If you have trouble creating an iTunes account and get "Contact support to complete" message, here is the solution. The area code of the phone number associated with this debit card is incorrect. It is not 718 as provided by US Unlocked but 551. Change it to this and it will work.

1- I Applied for US UNLOCKED Card 2- IDs Accepted and Got it loaded with USD 55 3- Activated the NEX Account 4- Turned On hotspot shield(Made sure its US ip address) 5- Tried to create iTunes US Account numerous times but always get, the message saying: "Please Contact iTunes Support to Complete This Transaction" please advise as this is getting frustrating.

Has something changed at Apple? Do we need another workaround?

I already have 30$ in my itunes account but I need a valid US credit card to use my store credit to subscribe to itunes match. Can I use the 5 dollar starter credit card for that purpose? I dont need to subscribe using credit card, I know itunes match accepts store credit

Hi, I'm new to this and have just been through the ID check and await my card details.
My question is 2 fold
1. I'm a mac user and I use OpenVPN - should it be enough or do i need to get HotSpot Shield.
2. I wanna make purchases from the apple.com store as well as the itunes store. Also I have a ShopandShip.com account. Will I be able to buy from the apple online store - for example the latest iPhone 5 or a MacBook Air and ship it to the ShopandShip address in the USA ?

Hello, I was sceptical of using this service and wanted it mainly for a US itunes account. I can verify that it does work. I have been able to set up a separate account (mostly for music) from my existing one in a different country and with the USunlocked card I was able to make it work. I had previously tried with a MYUS.com address before with no luck. I am a happy customer. Cheers

Well, it's not working for me. Hotspot shield, other vpn with american ip, correct data (triple checked), computer restarted, other browser used for apple id, itunes and its data uninstalled and deleted, then reinstalled, laptop dragooned into service,to no avail. "Please contact itunes support to complete". As if.. It could be that the 10.7 release is still more unforgivin'. tried for 24 hours now

Solved: I did not blieve i at first , but it seems the info i was supplied with was not accepted by apple. I changed my telephones area code a number down and voila, it stuck. Check also for other apple products you might have installed which are not in line with your new account, such as sign out of icloud then back in with the new pass, this applies to pc and ipad. iphone. Don;t forget to research alternative mail providers before, you need two new mail adresses, one for confirmation, one for backup

Hi, I try to register Netflix using usunlocked account and vpn from outside of the US, and it always turn up that seems my card having problem according to neflix.

If I already have an American iTunes Store account, do I need to refill my USUnlocked card with $51? Can't I just change the payment method to the US Unlocked card?
Plus, I have some good news, YOU DO NOT REQUIRE HOTSPOT SHIELD TO PURCHASE FROM iTunes. JUST CREATE AN AMERICAN iTunes Store ACCOUNT AND YOU'RE GOOD TO GO. :)

Hi! I already have a US iTunes account and I also have a US address (it is from a US POBox that gives you a physical address so you can send anything to that address and they ship it to my Mexican address)... what I want to know is that if it's possible to link the US Unlocked card to that address? Hi! I followed all the instruction in creating an account. I managed to install hotspot shield. When I set-up my itunes account, it always prompt me to contact itunes support to complete the transaction.
