Google Chromecast has been around for a while now and has had several iterations through the years. Essentially it’s an adapter for your TV that allows users to connect and stream devices via its HDMI connection. The newer devices also come with a remote and allow you to download streaming services like Hulu Plus, Netflix, HBO Max, Google TV and a whole slew of others. Many consider it the leading streaming device around and a definite bargain at around $50. However, the downside is that the best channels on Chromecast are only available in the U.S.

What is Chromecast?

As mentioned above, the Chromecast is a media streaming device that connects your mobile device or computer to your TV. You would plug the Chromecast into your TV’s HDMI port, and connect it to WiFi. Primarily, you will use apps from on your mobile device or computer to cast to your TV. The devices include Android tablets and smartphones, iPads and iPhones, and Chrome for PCs and Macs. When you use your mobile device to cast to your TV, you can pretty much consider it a remote for your TV. You can control the volume, fast forward and rewind right from your device.

How to gain access to U.S. channels on Chromecast?

To have channels that are only obtainable in the U.S., you will need to use a Smart DNS or VPN. A Smart DNS is another way for you to work around geo-blocked services like Hulu Plus, in this case, Chromecast. A reliable Smart DNS is Unlocator. However, you will hit a roadblock trying to connect your Chromecast to a Smart DNS or VPN because there is no way to do so directly within Chromecast. You can sign up for a free 7-day trial to see if you like it. Next, you will need to work around the hard-coded Google DNS that is on Chromecast. That tutorial is HERE. Once you are connected, you can use U.S. channels.

How to watch your go-to TV streaming service on Chromecast?

Popular streaming services like Hulu Plus, HBO Now, CBS All Access, Sling TV  have limitations outside the U.S. so you will need to subscribe using a U.S. credit or debit card. Below is a list of tutorials on how to subscribe to these services from outside the U.S. using the US Unlocked card. Also, although Netflix is accessible in over 190 countries, having a Netflix US account is still the best to have.
