iTunes was announced by Steve Jobs in 2001 as a media player for Apple devices and quickly expanded to embrace podcasts, video, books, mobile apps and more recently streaming services becoming a multimedia content manager.

iTunes originally focused on music, and provided a library that offered organization, collection and storage of a user’s music. In 2005, the core features were expanded to include digital video, podcasts, e-books and apps purchased from the iOS App Store. In 2019, it was announced that iTunes was replaced by Music, Podcasts, and TV for macOS Catalina, but will still be available for Windows and for older macOS versions.
